Responsibilities

Human Resources Leadership Development Program (HRLDP) Internship: The Summer Internship Program gives high-performing master’s and MBA students the opportunity to contribute to strategic, high-impact initiatives aligned with the CEG strategy. Throughout the summer, interns gain meaningful exposure to senior leadership and the diverse functional areas of CEG. At the end of the program, interns present their insights and recommendations to the Chief Colleague Experience Officer, the CEG Senior Leadership Team, and CEG colleagues.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Summer Internship Program is the direct pipeline into the Full-Time Human Resources Leadership Development Program (HRLDP), and successful interns may receive an opportunity to return after graduation. Over the course of two years, the full-time program offers three diverse, high-impact, and personalized Colleague Experience Group (CEG) rotations designed to stretch participants and prepare them for larger and more complex roles. The experience is high-touch and supports individual development through senior leader mentorship and coaching. Following program completion, participants transition into roles within the function based on business needs and participant interests.

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead people, projects, or initiatives, especially through change.

  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced, changing environment while delivering high-quality work with speed.

  • Ability to lead effectively through change by demonstrating curiosity, learning agility, and resilience; asking thoughtful questions; sharing ideas and feedback; and helping others adapt as priorities and ways of working evolve.

  • Data-driven analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to generate insights and drive results.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to analyze data, develop insights, and create clear, compelling presentations for executive audiences.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and manage project plans, stay highly organized, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and consistently drive follow-through and execution.

  • The ability to synthesize large amounts of information, including data, stakeholder perspectives, and AI-enabled insights, into clear, actionable recommendations and compelling executive-level communications.

  • A willingness to speak up, challenge the status quo, and contribute new ideas.

  • Commitment to and passion for building a career in HR.

  • Interest in growing a long-term career in CEG at American Express.

  • The ability to be based in New York and work in a hybrid model.
