POSITION SUMMARY:

MOHELA is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to support our IT Security team. This opportunity is ideal for a student interested in gaining hands-on experience in information security governance, information assurance, policy development, compliance, and risk management within a professional corporate environment.

 

The intern will gain practical experience supporting the organization's efforts to protect information assets, maintain compliance with information security requirements, and strengthen its overall security framework. This role provides valuable exposure to cybersecurity governance, security policy development, risk management processes, and security reporting activities.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Security Governance and Policy Development

  • Review existing information security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Assist with updating and drafting security policies, standards, and supporting documentation.
  • Research industry best practices and security frameworks to support policy development and governance initiatives.
  • Support the continuous improvement of information security governance processes

Information Assurance and Compliance Support

  • Assist with documenting security controls that protect organizational information assets
  •  Support compliance reviews and evaluate adherence to established policies and standards.
  • Research regulatory and industry requirements relevant to information security programs.
  • Help prepare and maintain compliance-related documentation and supporting materials.

 

Risk Management and Security Reporting

  • Assist with identifying, documenting, and tracking information security risks.
  • Support security reporting, metrics collection, and dashboard development using security tools such as Splunk and Microsoft Sentinel.
  • Help maintain risk registers, corrective action tracking, and governance documentation.
  • Assist with research and analysis that supports risk management and security decision-making.

JOB DETAILS:

  • Durations and Hours: This part-time position requires approximately 15 hours per week, with flexible work hours scheduled within regular business hours. Internship is expected to begin in early February 2027 and conclude in May 2027.
  • Compensation: This is a non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $16 per hour. If your academic institution allows you to receive course credit for internship experiences, you must coordinate credit requirements directly with your college or university and communicate any employer requirements (such as supervisory assessments) your institution requires for course credit.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates must reside in Missouri, within 1 hour of O'Fallon, MO or Columbia, MO and be able to work onsite throughout the duration of the internship.
  • Enrollment in an accredited Missouri college or university in an undergraduate program in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, management information systems, information security, or a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a Federal 5C Security Clearance prior to start.

  • Interest in cybersecurity governance, risk management, compliance, and information security.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with information security concepts, frameworks, or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience conducting research, preparing reports, or documenting technical information.
  •  Interest in security analytics, risk assessment, and security operations.
