About the NFSA
The National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is a not-for-profit trade association that stands as the leading voice of the fire sprinkler industry. The NFSA is dedicated to saving lives and protecting property through fire sprinkler advocacy, technical expertise, and education. NFSA engineers provide essential technical support to our members through the Expert of the Day (EOD) service, research initiatives, industry representation (on codes and standards committees, among other things), and training programs.
Position Overview
We are seeking highly motivated, hardworking students to join our team as interns for the summer. This role is ideal for individuals interested in water-based fire protection systems and who want more hands-on experience with all aspects of these systems, including both from a design and code perspective. As a Fire Protection Engineering Intern at NFSA, you get to join a team of highly experienced fire protection professionals, who play a critical role in shaping our codes and standards. You will also gain exposure to the codes and standards process and advancing life safety. If you are passionate about engineering or the fire sprinkler industry, we encourage you to apply.

June 1, 2027 to August 6, 2027
Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in providing technical support to members through writing informal code interpretations (NFSA EOD Program)
- Participating in NFSA events and programs
- Assist with side-by-side burn demonstrations and trailer set-up
- Participate in NFSA’s training opportunities including Layout Technician Pathway program
What We’re Looking For
- Students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or other related technical fields
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail oriented and organized
- Professional Demeanor
- Attitude of taking initiative, enthusiasm, eagerness to learn
- Candidate must be eligible to work in the US without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future to be considered for this role

On-Site at NFSA Headquarters in Linthicum Heights, MD
