The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, established in 1893, is an independent, nonprofit organization with a mission to promote the health and well-being of infants and children through services that establish and strengthen the family. Our programs include Adoption & Permanency Services, Child’s Way®, the Pediatric Specialty Hospital, the Pediatric VIEW Program, therapy services and Counseling. In addition to these programs, we offer free housing for patients and families in our on-site Lemieux Family Center.
About the Role

Description

The Children's Home of Pittsburgh is seeking a Marketing and Development intern as a key member of our team. The Marketing and Development Intern will support the organization's fundraising, marketing, community outreach, grant development, and donor engagement efforts. This hands-on internship provides valuable experience in nonprofit development, event planning, communications, grant research and prospecting, volunteer engagement, and social media marketing while helping advance the mission of The Children's Home of Pittsburgh.

Requirements

Fundraising & Development

  • Support planning and execution of The Children’s Home’s Black and Gold Gala
  • Research and organize potential auction items, vendors, sponsors, event partners, and in-kind donation opportunities
  • Build and maintain contact lists for donors and vendors
  • Draft and send auction item solicitation emails
  • Procure, coordinate, track, and steward in-kind donations for the gala
  • Track responses, donations, commitments, follow-up activities, and event-related data using spreadsheets and tracking tools
  • Collect, organize, and prepare auction item information, including descriptions, photos, logos, and other content needed for event programs and auction platforms
  • Assist with creating auction baskets and displays
  • Prepare and organize event materials and supplies, including signage, name tags, guest packets, auction displays, and event collateral
  • Support final event logistics, timelines, checklists, and event space preparation
  • Conduct foundation and grant prospect research
  • Assist with grant prospecting efforts and the development of grant funding pipelines
  • Help create and maintain a grant language library, including collecting, organizing, and updating organizational narratives, program descriptions, outcomes, statistics, and commonly used proposal language to support future grant applications

Marketing & Communications

  • Support development of marketing and communications materials
  • Assist with creating content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Help produce the organization's quarterly e-newsletter
  • Research and draft blog posts for The Children's Home website
  • Conduct outreach calls supporting Adoption Services, the Pediatric Specialty Hospital, and Child's Way® programs
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community outreach events
  • Support the volunteer program as needed

Administrative Support

  • Assist with general development and marketing projects
  • Maintain organized records related to events, donations, and outreach activities
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
  2. Relevant coursework or experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, marketing, communications, journalism, or other related courses.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  4. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  6. Experience with social media platforms is preferred
  7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  8. Passion for serving children and families through nonprofit work
