Position Summary

Home Assist Health’s internship program gives high school seniors the opportunity to explore careers, build professional skills, and learn how our departments work together to support the individuals and communities we serve.

Interns will rotate through departments, learn from experienced team members, and complete hands-on learning projects. This program is designed for students who are curious, dependable, and ready to learn. No previous work experience is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend orientation and participate in scheduled department rotations.
  • Learn about each department’s responsibilities and how its work supports Home Assist Health’s mission.
  • Observe team members and assist with supervised, age-appropriate activities.

  • Ask questions, take notes, and apply feedback from department mentors.
  • Prepare and present completed projects, sharing what was learned.
  • Follow workplace policies, safety instructions, and confidentiality expectations.
  • Notify the program coordinator promptly of absences, tardiness, or scheduling concerns.

Department Learning Opportunities

Projects may include:

  • Human Resources: Complete a fictional employee investigation to practice gathering facts, considering different perspectives, and presenting findings.
  • Finance: Participate in “Follow the Dollar,” tracing a hypothetical client’s journey from referral and care delivery through billing and payment.
  • Information Technology: Learn how technology supports daily operations and complete a department-assigned project.
  • Compliance: Participate in a 5S workplace organization project and learn how clear processes support quality and safety.
  • Habilitation and Programs: Explore how services support independence, daily living, and individual goals through guided activities and projects.

  • Interested in exploring careers in healthcare, business, or community services.

  • Able to follow instructions and complete assignments with guidance.
  • Able to communicate respectfully and work with people from different backgrounds.
  • Dependable and able to attend the agreed-upon schedule.
  • Basic computer skills are helpful; training and support will be provided.

Professional Expectations

Interns are expected to arrive on time, participate actively, and treat employees, fellow interns, and the people we serve with respect.

Dress code is business casual: neat clothing such as slacks or khakis with a polo, blouse, or appropriate sweater and clean, comfortable shoes. Clothing should be suitable for a professional office. Department mentors will explain any additional requirements for scheduled activities.

Interns must protect confidential information and access only information approved for their assignments. Learning activities will use fictional or de-identified information whenever possible. Interns will not independently provide client care or make employee, financial, or service decisions.
