Job Overview

Summary/Objective

The Engineering Intern will work closely with Engineering, Operations, Service, and Repair teams to support technical analysis, equipment inspections, documentation, process improvement, and engineering projects. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, hands-on, and interested in applying engineering principles to real-world industrial equipment and service operations.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to cryogenic equipment, rotating machinery, pump systems, manufacturing and repair processes, quality requirements, and industrial service operations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with technical evaluations, inspections, and troubleshooting of cryogenic pumps and related equipment.
  • Support the engineering review of equipment received at the Houston Service Center for repair, overhaul, or inspection.
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing technical and equipment data.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Assist with preparation and updating of engineering documentation, inspection reports, repair documentation, and technical procedures.
  • Support root-cause analysis and investigation of equipment failures or performance issues.
  • Assist with measurements, dimensional inspections, and verification of components using appropriate inspection tools.
  • Support Engineering and Operations with process improvement and continuous improvement projects.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve service center workflows, repair processes, quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Assist with creating spreadsheets, calculations, charts, and other engineering analyses.
  • Support the development and maintenance of standard work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in meetings and project discussions with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Service personnel.
  • Work with technicians and repair personnel to better understand equipment, repair processes, and field service requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform other duties and engineering projects as assigned.

The intern may be required to:

  • Spend time on the service center floor observing and supporting repair and inspection activities.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Stand, walk, bend, and move around the facility for extended periods.
  • Safely handle or inspect components and equipment with appropriate assistance and equipment.
  • Follow all facility safety procedures and instructions.

  • Comfortable working in both an office and industrial/service center environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, operations personnel, and other team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with CAD software is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technical systems, equipment, and processes quickly.
  • Demonstrated interest in hands-on engineering and industrial equipment.

Work Environment

Work in both office and workshop environments at company site.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Junior or Senior standing preferred.
  • Graduate engineering students may also be considered.
  • Previous internship, co-op, laboratory, manufacturing, or hands-on technical experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with engineering projects, CAD, data analysis, or mechanical equipment is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, type, and write.
  • Reach with hands and arms, bend, stand on a stool or climb, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Use standard office equipment such as computers, smart phones, printers, photocopiers, etc.
  • Lift files and open desk drawers and filing cabinets.

Safety

  • Participate in other training as directed by the company or manager.
  • Wear Nikkiso approved PPE as needed and direct others to do the same as appropriate.
