JOB SEEKERS: Beware of job scams and fake employment offers. It has come to our attention that fraudulent employment offers have been sent to job seekers by people who claim to be employees of Builders FirstSource (BFS). These scammers use a variety of tactics to engage with job seekers to commit identity theft, financial fraud, and other crimes. They can be very convincing, going as far as to steal the profile pictures of our actual recruiters from their LinkedIn profiles and using email addresses that contain words such as ‘@BuildersFirstSource’ or '@BFS.' The scammers will typically ask you to send money at some point (for equipment, training, or a uniform, etc.). A LEGITIMATE BFS RECRUITER OR HIRING MANAGER WILL NEVER ASK YOU TO SEND US MONEY. Also, you will never receive a job offer from us if we have not verbally interviewed you. If you ever receive an unsolicited or suspicious communication that demands any form of payment in connection with employment at BFS, you should consider it to be fraudulent and cease all contact with the sender. You can report US job scams to the FTC (www.ReportFraud.ftc.gov), your state attorney general, or econsumer.gov for international scams. You can also report any fraudulent activity to LinkedIn.

Modernizing a Legacy Industry

Building products is one of the country’s largest and most essential industries, and it is entering a new era of digital transformation. At Builders FirstSource, you will bring a fresh perspective to real business challenges, work alongside experienced leaders, and explore how data, AI, and emerging technologies can improve the way a nationwide business operates and serves its customers.

This is not an internship built around observation or administrative work. You will contribute to a meaningful project, develop practical recommendations, and have the opportunity to see how your ideas can influence active business and technology initiatives.

About Builders FirstSource

Builders FirstSource a leading supplier of structural building products to the professional market for new residential construction and repair and remodeling, operating approximately 450 locations across 40 states. As the industry continues to evolve, BFS is investing in technology, data, automation, and AI to improve how we serve our customers, support our operations, and drive business growth.

Application Services plays a critical role in transformation by partnering with business leaders to define, enable, operate, and continuously improve business capabilities through technology, data, process expertise, and AI-enabled innovation.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that help modernize business processes, improve team-member and customer experiences, and strengthen the technology capabilities supporting a large and complex nationwide organization.

Purpose

This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience at the intersection of business operations, process improvement, data, and emerging technologies. Working alongside BFS business and technology leaders, you will help analyze real business challenges, explore opportunities for AI and automation, and contribute to initiatives supporting one or more Application Services functional areas.

Throughout the summer, you will gain exposure to business analysis, process improvement, data-driven decision making, enterprise technology, testing and quality practices, and solution delivery. You will also develop practical skills that can be applied across a wide range of future careers.

The role includes structured mentorship, progressive ownership of meaningful deliverables, and regular interaction with project, functional, and technology leaders.

Program Structure

This posting supports four IT Application Services internship positions within the Summer 2027 IGNITE Internship Program. The internships span three functional areas: Integrated Supply Chain, Commercial Operations, and Business Functions. Intern assignments will be determined based on business priorities, project needs, candidate interests, and demonstrated strengths.

All four interns will participate in a common experience combining collaborative, functional, and professional-development activities designed to provide broad exposure to Builders FirstSource, business operations, and technology leadership.

  • Cohort Initiative: Partner with fellow IT Application Services interns on a shared business challenge that encourages collaboration, innovation, and cross-functional problem solving. The initiative will culminate in a final presentation to business and technology leaders.
  • Functional Initiative: Work alongside business and technology leaders on a meaningful initiative within an assigned Application Services functional area. Depending on business priorities, projects may involve business analysis, process improvement, data analytics, AI use-case development, automation opportunities, testing and quality improvement, or technology transformation.
  • AI & Emerging Technology Workshop Series: Participate in a recurring workshop series that explores how organizations are applying AI, automation, analytics, and emerging technologies to solve real business challenges. Sessions may include collaboration with external technology and strategy partners and will culminate in a capstone presentation and discussion with IT and business leadership.
  • Final Capstone Presentation: At the conclusion of the internship, present project outcomes, recommendations, and key learnings. Presentations will focus on business impact, lessons learned, and opportunities for future improvement, providing visibility to leadership and an opportunity to showcase the value delivered throughout the summer.

The cohort, meaningful project, mentorship, and final-presentation model aligns with the documented IGNITE emphasis on structured development, active leadership support, real business impact, autonomy with guidance, and intern visibility.
