Position Summary: 

The Mechanical Engineering Intern – New Product Development will support Ergotron's product development team with concept generation and early-stage design work. The intern will contribute to filling the NPD funnel with new product ideas, build and test prototypes, and assist engineers with design tasks on active projects, gaining hands-on experience taking an idea from sketch to tested concept.


Position Responsibilities: 

· Generate and document concepts for new products and accessories, including sketches and CAD models.

· Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and prototypes in support of active NPD projects.

· Build and evaluate prototypes (3D printed and shop-fabricated); run basic fit, function, and durability checks.

· Research competitive products, standards, and user needs to support concept selection.


Position Requirements (Knowledge & Experience): 

· Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

· Coursework or project experience with 3D CAD (New Product Development, SolidWorks, or similar) and engineering drawings.

· Understanding of basic mechanical design principles: materials, fasteners, tolerances, and common manufacturing processes.

· Nice to have: hands-on prototyping or shop experience (3D printing, machining, fabrication).

· Creative problem-solving, clear written and verbal communication, and comfort presenting early ideas.
