The Opportunity

The Corporate Reserving Actuarial Intern will work closely with other Actuarial Analysts and Actuaries within their respective teams, as well as with other key individuals across the department. Through hands-on reserving work, the intern will build an understanding of reinsurance fundamentals and the various functions of a reserving department. The intern will also strengthen their analytical, data visualization, communication, and presentation skills by supporting quarterly monitoring activities and completing an actuarial reserving project.

 

This internship is being offered in Princeton, NJ or New York City, NY.

At this time, we are unable to consider intern candidates who will need current or future sponsorship, including sponsorship related to Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT).

Responsibilities:

  • Support segment-level reserving analyses, including technical checks of actuarial analyses, large-loss research, and loss development pattern selections.
  • Assist with the development of quarterly monitoring analyses and presentations.
  • Work closely with an Actuary on a reserving project and collaborate with Actuarial Analysts, Actuaries, and other key individuals across the department.
  • Analyze and visualize data to communicate findings clearly and support management decision-making.
  • Deliver an end-of-internship presentation to the department..

 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Open to all undergraduate and graduate students
  • Preferred majors: Actuarial Science, Data Science/Analytics, Economics, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics. Also accepting: Accounting, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Physics or any other STEM major
 
 
  • Successful completion of one CAS/SOA  actuarial exam is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including formal and informal presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including clear thinking, curiosity, integrity, and drive.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and an interest in the P&C reinsurance industry.
  • Enthusiasm about learning new knowledge and working in the reinsurance industry.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills.

The company is open to considering candidate in New York, NY or Princeton, NJ. The pay has a base range of $20.00-$33.00 per hour. The hourly estimate displayed represents the typical hourly range for candidates hired in this position in NYC and Princeton. Factors that may be used to determine your actual rate will include your undergraduate or graduate level, specific skills, how many years of experience you have in comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
