About The Company
TISSIUM was founded in 2013 to address one of the most persistent medical challenges since the inception of surgical procedures: to reconstruct damaged tissue and restore its natural function. Since the discovery of our first polymer at the labs of Bob Langer and Jeff Karp at MIT, we recognized the exceptional potential for our technology to revolutionize the field of tissue reconstruction in multiple therapeutic areas. Our unique approach to product development leverages the knowledge gained from the development of our technology platform comprised of proprietary polymers, activation technologies, and delivery devices. We have developed a fully integrated innovation, design, commercialization and manufacturing platform to support our internal programs as well as co-development partnerships with leaders in the medtech industry.
About the Role

TISSIUM is a mission-driven medical device company founded in 2013, headquartered in Paris, with a production facility in Roncq (near Lille) and an office in Boston. We are dedicated to creating a new era of body repair by leveraging our biopolymer platform to develop innovative solutions in surgery for a positive impact on patients' lives.

TISSIUM's technology is based on research and intellectual property from the laboratories of Professor Robert Langer (MIT) and Professor Jeffrey M. Karp (Brigham and Women's Hospital), who co-founded the company with Christophe Bancel (CEO) and Maria Pereira (Deputy CEO & Chief Innovation Officer).

We develop polymers for atraumatic tissue repair. Today, they are used for sutureless nerve repair, hernia repair and cardiovascular sealing.

Since our inception, we have raised a total of 170 million euros, including 50 million euros in our latest round (April 2023), to finance the commercialization of our first products.

THE PROJECT

You will join a real development project at a decisive moment. The device is a minimally invasive, atraumatic fixation method for gastrointestinal surgery, and it is entering its pre-verification and validation (pre-V&V) phase.

Over your 6 months, the team will finalize the prototype, develop and validate the test methods that will assess device performance in V&V, and produce the documentation needed to reach Design Freeze. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will contribute to each of these steps and see first-hand how a medical device moves towards V&V.

YOUR MISSION
  • Testing strategy: take part in discussions on how the device will be tested in V&V, and support the team in developing and validating test methods.

  • Lab and surgeon testing: help carry out and document bench tests in TISSIUM's laboratory (mechanical testing, fixation performance on biological tissues) and participate in simulated-use tests with surgeons on human anatomical models and/or animal models.

  • Data analysis: organize and analyze experimental results, and help prepare technical reports and presentations shared in team meetings.

  • Documentation: contribute to drafting study plans, study reports, SOPs, work instructions and other Design History File (DHF) documents.

  • Literature and data review: gather and summarize relevant insights from internal company data and the scientific literature.

  • Quality and regulations: learn and apply company procedures, the Quality Management System and medical device regulations.

YOUR ENVIRONMENT

You will be part of the Innovation & New Concepts team within TISSIUM's R&D Department, reporting to the R&D Manager leading the project. Day to day, you will:

  • Work with R&D colleagues to learn the specifics of our products (polymer, light-activation devices…).

  • Collaborate with the teams supporting device development, such as Quality and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Meet surgeons to gather their feedback on device handling and performance.

YOUR PROFILE
What you bring
  • You are an engineering or Master's student in biomedical engineering or a related field, available for a 6-month internship in Paris starting January–February 2027.

  • You have hands-on experience with laboratory testing, data analysis and reporting (projects, previous internships or research work all count).

  • You are fluent in English, written and spoken: English is TISSIUM's official working language.

  • You are willing to take part in animal experimentation and/or handle animal tissues.

Nice to have
  • Experience with CAD design and 3D printing.

How you work
  • Organized and detail-oriented.

  • Resourceful and proactive.

  • Can-do attitude, with the ability to prioritize the most critical activities and adjust priorities as needed.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, fostering collaboration and cooperation.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to different audiences.

WHY JOIN US
  • Contribute to a medical device development project.

  • Gain exposure to medical device development: test methods, Design History File documentation, Quality Management System and applicable regulations.

  • Interact with surgeons to gather feedback on device handling and performance.

  • Work across teams and settings: R&D, Quality and Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, in TISSIUM's laboratory and at external CROs.

  • Join a mission-driven company whose technology is based on research from the laboratories of Professor Robert Langer (MIT) and Professor Jeffrey M. Karp (Brigham and Women's Hospital).

HIRING PROCESS
  1. HR interview (30 min, video): your motivation, availability and internship agreement.

  2. Interview with the R&D Manager (45–60 min, video): your lab experience, a past project you are proud of, and how you would approach the role

  3. Team meeting (on site in Paris): meet the Innovation team and visit the lab.
