Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a driven, proactive, and detail-oriented Warranty & Repair Co-Op to join our Service Operations team. In this hands-on role, you will bridge the gap between enterprise systems and hands-on shop floor execution. You will support continuous improvement projects across SAP system modeling, technical training frameworks, digital quality systems (SOCOS), and lean 5S shop floor layout re-engineering.

This position offers extensive exposure to engineering principles, ERP system workflows, operational excellence, and Quality Systems compliance.

Key Responsibilities & Potential Projects

1. SAP Operations & Quoting Optimization

  • Time Reclassification: Audit and update labor activity types to ensure accurate cost allocation and booking integrity.

  • Planned vs. Actual Alignment: Conduct time studies and historical variance analyses across four critical repair stages—Inspection, Repair, Testing, and Final Inspection—calibrating SAP master routings to real-world performance.

  • Quoting Procedure Development: Build upon and improve the current repair quotation process; develop improved and streamlined quotation tools and practices.

2. Technical Training & Skills Architecture

  • Skills Categorization: Inventory technician competencies, mapping hands-on capabilities against specific material groups and diagnostic equipment.

  • Competency Matrix Expansion: Develop modular training plans and expand the operational skill matrix by integrating online training modules, Fit for Service curricula, and in-house workshops.

  • Standardized Inspection Documentation: Translate tacit diagnostic knowledge into clear, structured, and visually guided inspection reference guides.

3. File Architecture & Warranty Governance

  • Shared File Folder Restructuring: Review and restructure the legacy network file repository to make file searches and saving more intuitive and efficient.

  • Document Lifecycle Management: Identify, log, and safely archive obsolete documents, spreadsheets, and superseded working aids.

  • Warranty Document Review: Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing Warranty Agreements, ensuring only active, validated, and current legal revisions are retained.

4. Work Instructions & SOCOS Documentation

  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Review existing Service Work Instructions (WIs) across all technical repair workstations.

  • Document Harmonization: Update or archive legacy Work Instructions.

  • Regulatory & System Release: Route revised documentation through formal review and release workflows within SOCOS, ensuring full compliance.

5. Shop Floor Lean Layout & 5S Implementation

  • Layout & Flow Optimization: Map the physical service area layout using value stream mapping and spaghetti diagrams to minimize material handling waste and technician travel time.

  • Point-of-Use Storage: Establish structured inventory storage (kanban) quantities and ordering processes for hardware and consumables (cover plates, bolts, protective caps, overstock).

  • 5S Staging Lane Execution: Standardize floor markings, visual controls, and operational rules across designated staging lanes and areas such as:

    • Incoming

    • Return to Stock

    • Return to Customer

    • Quality Holds

    • Internal service order (YINT) Inspection

  • Office & Cabinet Realignment: Lead 5S sorting and purging of physical material cabinets, securely archiving critical records and systematically disposing of redundant or obsolete documents.

Qualifications

Academic Standing: Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program

Preferred Majors: Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.

  • Other technical disciplines would be considered, based on additional skills/qualifications and prior work experience.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical aptitude with proficiency in data manipulation and modeling using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookup formulas, data validation).

Communication & Organization: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to interface comfortably between shop floor technicians, specialists, and management.

Problem-Solving & Initiative: Self-starter mindset with demonstrated interest in continuous improvement (Kaizen, Lean, 5S).

Preferred / Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity or prior coursework in SAP ERP (Production Planning, Plant Maintenance, or Customer Service modules).
