About the Role

At BHSI, we believe in empowering our customers to navigate a world full of uncertainty. Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance plays a vital role in helping individuals and businesses manage risk by transferring potential financial losses to insurers.


As an Atmospheric Science Intern, you will contribute to projects within the Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team. CAT E&A is an innovative, multidisciplinary group that evaluates catastrophe risk globally, develops independent models and analytical solutions, and produces quantitative loss insights to support underwriting decisions. You will work on weather-related projects that align with your interests and skills in meteorology, computer programming, geospatial computing, statistics, data analytics, and data science. You will gain hands-on experience in catastrophe modeling, learn about the insurance industry, and see how collaboration advances cutting-edge natural catastrophe models.

Opportunity: 


We are seeking a motivated and curious individual to join our Boston, MA office with the CAT E&A team as a Summer Intern. This 12-week paid internship offers a deep dive into the world of natural catastrophe model development and risk evaluation.


Qualifications:

 

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of atmospheric processes and experience applying meteorological data to weather analysis, modeling, or forecasting.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or a comparable analytical programming language or environment.
  • Knowledge of probability, statistics, uncertainty analysis, or other quantitative methods relevant to environmental or risk analysis.
  • Exposure to or experience with GIS software and AI-assisted development tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively both collaboratively and independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Pay Transparency:

 

The base salary range for this position in Boston is from $25/hour - $28/hour; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
