Your Opportunity

Engineering Internships at Stantec involve responsibilities and work that are quite varied and stimulating.  In this position as an Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to be part of a team working on active projects and researching technology on projects rooted in the Energy & Resources sectors in North America.  By having the chance to work on a wide array of projects including renewable power generation, critical minerals production, oil and gas development and transportation, this is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment. You will perform a variety of selected tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills to help you succeed in the Energy Transition.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize applicable technical knowledge to add value to projects and strengthen that knowledge through on-the-job informal and formal training.
  • Assist I&C engineers and design leads in daily project tasks as assigned that might include familiarization with, and development of I&C design deliverables including:
    • Instrument index and IO assignments.
    • Instrumentation data sheets, and purchase requisition development
    • Sizing and selection of instrumentation and control system components
    • Control philosophy and narrative documents.
    • Cause & Effect and Shutdown Keys
    • Control system architecture, panels, loop wiring, and control power distribution.
  • Familiarization with the appropriate reference materials to complete I&C design tasks.
  • Become familiar with applicable industry standards, codes, and legislation.
  • Compliance with Stantec’s HSSE program.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s or associate degree in a related field including i.e.: Electrical, Instrumentation, Industrial Automation, or Chemical Engineering
  • Or (Canada only) Enrollment in Instrumentation Technology diploma program
  • Strong technical proficiency.
  • Sound interpersonal, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven initiative, flexibility, and adaptability.

Education and Experience

Students enrolled in a 3- or 4-year program should have a minimum completion of second year. Students enrolled in a 2-year program should have a minimum completion of first year.  Related experience in any energy & resources industry sector will be considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
