About the Role

Overview:

SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Data Scientist Intern. As a member of SageSure’s Homeowners Product Research team housed in Actuarial, Data Scientist Interns will have the opportunity to assist in providing technical and analytical assessments of complex business issues related to the management of the current and future development of insurance products. Our interns will learn and use actuarial techniques in developing pricing plans.

Our internship program matches qualified students with the opportunity to participate in real-world situations, obtain industry knowledge, receive on-the-job training, and gain career-enhancing technical skills that will foster professional growth.  Furthermore, our internships are designed to provide interns the opportunity to network with subject matter experts within the industry as they work to build their professional skills.

What you’d be doing:

  • Build statistical learning models to solve business problems
  • Research external data and explore potential usage of external data
  • Collaborate with Underwriting, Actuarial and Data Management to formulate business problems into modeling projects
  • Translate and champion model results to diverse audiences
  • Assist in developing data pipeline for modeling projects 

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Enrolled in a graduate program in Statistics, Data Science or related fields, with an expected May 2028 graduation date.
  • Experience in merging and preparing data for analysis
  • Proficiency with supervised and unsupervised learning models such as Generalized Linear Models, Generalized Additive Model, Lasso, KNN, Boosting, etc.
  • Proficiency in statistical inference
  • Proficiency in SQL and programming experience in R or Python
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • To qualify, all applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
