About the Role

Job Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, supplier management, and business operations while contributing to a Fortune 250 company?

WM is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student for a 10 to 12-week Summer Internship within the Supply Chain organization. The internship is designed to provide practical experience across multiple supply chain disciplines through rotational assignments in:

  • Direct Sourcing
  • Indirect Sourcing
  • Procurement Operations

The intern will work alongside Supply Chain professionals on strategic projects, spend analysis, sourcing initiatives, supplier engagement activities, procurement process improvements, and operational support activities. The program offers exposure to both strategic and transactional procurement processes while helping develop foundational skills in supply chain management, supplier relationship management, analytics, and business partnership.


What You'll Do

Direct Sourcing Rotation

  • Support category managers and sourcing professionals in reviewing supplier spend and market data.
  • Assist with supplier research, benchmarking, and sourcing event preparation.
  • Participate in supplier evaluation and selection processes.
  • Analyze procurement opportunities related to operational goods and services.
  • Support category strategy development and sourcing documentation.

Indirect Sourcing Rotation

  • Assist sourcing managers supporting categories such as technology, professional services, telecom, contingent workforce, or corporate services.
  • Conduct spend and contract analysis to identify savings and process improvement opportunities.
  • Help prepare RFPs, RFQs, supplier scorecards, and sourcing recommendations.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and cross-functional project discussions.
  • Support contract review and supplier management activities.

Procurement Operations Rotation

  • Gain exposure to requisition-to-pay processes and procurement systems.
  • Assist with procurement data analysis, reporting, and operational metrics.
  • Support process improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, compliance, and user experience.
  • Help document workflows, procedures, and procurement best practices.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to resolve purchasing-related questions.

Program-Wide Responsibilities

  • Complete a summer project with measurable business impact.
  • Present findings and recommendations to Supply Chain leadership.
  • Collaborate with team members across Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, Digital, and other corporate functions.
  • Participate in professional development, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
  • Apply analytical and problem-solving skills to real business challenges.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in:.  
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Business Administration
    • Finance
    • Economics
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Operations Management
    • Data Analytics
    • Related field
  • Candidates must have completed at least their sophomore year of study (typically 60+ completed credit hours)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred

  • Interest in procurement, sourcing, supplier management, operations, or logistics.
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with procurement or ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through coursework, organizations, athletics, or community involvement.
