About the Role

Claims Intern – Summer 2027

What You'll Do: As a Claims Intern, you will assist with non-storm and storm projects as needed. You will be in charge of coverage reviews, total loss paperwork, and following up on claims as needed. This internship is a great opportunity to gain an understanding of Farm Bureau Financial Services’ culture and products. You will learn our Claims Best Practices and processes and assist with managing claims and assisting customers during storm season.

As an intern, you will also participate in corporate activities designed to provide exposure to our industry, organization, and culture. Our internship program follows an 80/10/10 approach:

  • 80% of your time will be spent performing meaningful work and project-based assignments within your department.
  • 10% of your time will be dedicated to learning from and networking with employees in other areas of the organization.
  • 10% of your time will be spent participating in shared internship experiences that provide insight into our culture, leadership, and business operations.

This opportunity is a great way for you to get your foot in the door and spend your summer gaining entry-level claims/insurance experience, as well as general corporate real-world exposure.

What it Takes to Join our Team:

  • Be a current college student. Business-related major or communications major preferred. Junior or Senior status preferred.
  • A quick learner who is looking to learn new concepts and ideas, and able to learn basic understanding of claims and insurance.
  • Strong computer skills are required to quickly learn our multiple systems. Familiarity with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
  • Effective communicator, excellent customer service skills, and team focused.
  • Must be detail-oriented and willing to ask questions.
  • Must be comfortable talking on the telephone, as approximately 25% of your time will be spent on the phone.
  • Be available to work full time (38.75 hours/week. Between 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday) from our West Des Moines, IA office during the Summer of 2027.
