About The Company
Our mission is to make the world safer with simple, smart, and powerful physical security solutions. Rhombus is a customizable physical security platform that enables enterprise organizations to easily build a solution to meet their unique needs. Rhombus offers smart security cameras and sensors that seamlessly integrate with best-in-class solutions. With the Rhombus Platform, organizations can see, manage, and respond to critical events in real-time.
About the Role

About Us

Rhombus brings video security, access control, and connected sensors together in a single cloud-based platform, helping organizations protect their people and spaces. Our engineering teams build the software and connected devices that make physical security simpler, smarter, and easier to manage.

About the Role

Build something that matters. As a Software Engineering Intern at Rhombus, you’ll work alongside engineers to develop features and solve problems across our cloud platform, web and mobile applications, or embedded device software.

You’ll take ownership of a defined project, collaborate with engineering and product teammates, and gain experience moving an idea through design, development, testing, and delivery. Your project will align with your interests, skills, and team priorities, with guidance and feedback throughout the internship.

We welcome candidates interested in backend, frontend, mobile, or embedded engineering. You don’t need experience in every area to apply.

Engineering Areas

Depending on your interests, experience, and team priorities, your project may focus on one or more of these areas:

  • Backend: Build APIs, services, and data workflows that connect devices to our cloud platform. Familiarity with databases, cloud services, Python, Go, or Java is a plus.
  • Frontend: Develop responsive web interfaces, reusable components, and intuitive customer workflows. Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and modern web frameworks is a plus.
  • Mobile: Build and improve iOS or Android features, integrate backend APIs, and enhance usability and reliability. Familiarity with Swift/iOS, Kotlin/Android, or cross-platform mobile development is a plus.
  • Embedded: Develop and test device software or firmware, explore hardware–software interactions, and improve device performance. Familiarity with C/C++, Linux, microcontrollers, device interfaces, or hardware debugging is a plus.

What You'll Do
  • Develop a scoped engineering project that contributes to Rhombus products or the systems behind them.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to understand user needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Write readable, maintainable code; participate in code reviews; and incorporate feedback from teammates.
  • Test and debug your work, with attention to reliability, performance, security, and the user experience.
  • Document your approach, communicate progress, and present your results and learnings at the end of the program.

What You Bring
  • Ability to work at Rhombus HQ during Summer 2027 (June-August).
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A foundation in programming, data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving.
  • Experience using at least one programming language through coursework, personal projects, research, or a previous internship.
  • Evidence of something you’ve built, tested, or improved—and the ability to explain your approach.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to ask questions, learn new tools, and act on feedback.
  • Clear communication and the ability to collaborate with teammates.
  • Prior professional internship experience is preferred.

What You’ll Gain
  • Ownership of a meaningful project with clear goals and tangible outcomes.
  • Mentorship, code reviews, and practical feedback from experienced engineers.
  • Exposure to how engineering, product, design, and hardware teams build connected products.
  • Experience balancing technical decisions with customer needs.
  • A final project presentation that demonstrates your work and growth.
