About The Company
Profound Medical Corp. (NASDAQ:PROF) is a commercial-stage medical technology company based in Mississauga, Ontario, advancing the standard of care for prostate cancer and BPH. Our proprietary, FDA-cleared technology, TULSA-PRO®, is the first and only AI-powered, MRI-guided, incision-free robotic ablation system for the ablation of prostate tissue. TULSA-PRO® gives physicians real-time precision and control, enabling customizable treatments that are both clinically effective and designed to preserve patients’ quality of life. Now available for maximum reimbursement. Discover the difference.
About the Role

Our mission is to Profoundly change the standard of care by creating a tomorrow where clinicians can confidently ablate tissue with precision; a tomorrow where patients have access to safe and effective treatment options, so they can quickly return to their daily lives. Changing the standard of care is part of our fabric. We are a group of energetic, problem-solvers focused on innovation, and looking to change the world. We are changing the paradigm for treating diseases such as prostate cancer by using real-time MR Imaging, thermal ultrasound and close-loop temperature feedback control, to gently ablate the diseased tissue with minimal side effects.

If you share our values and want to work in a collaborative results focused culture and want to make a Profound impact in healthcare and your career, here is your chance.

General Accountability
We are seeking a motivated, adaptable Clinical Systems Engineering Co-op to support hardware reliability investigations on our novel real-time MRI-guided robotic ultrasound therapy system. The co-op will analyze logs, sensor data, and test results to identify root causes, develop analysis tools, and gain hands-on experience collecting data at the MRI. Working closely with experienced engineers, the role suits a fast learner who takes ownership and delivers quality work on tight timelines.

Please note, this role is hybrid (4 days in office).

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Analyze device data, including system logs, feedback reports, sensor data, and service records, to identify failure trends and support root cause investigations.
  • Develop Python and/or MATLAB scripts to process, visualize, and summarize data, and to automate recurring analysis tasks.
  • Support data collection at the MRI, including test preparation, system setup, and data acquisition. MR safety training will be provided.
  • Assist with lab testing to reproduce field failures, including setup, data collection, and analysis.
  • Participate in root cause analysis sessions and contribute data-driven evidence.
  • Support the examination of returned units and record observations.
  • Document analysis methods and findings in line with quality-system requirements.
  • Present findings to R&D, Quality, and Clinical teams.

Education and Certifications

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, Software, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

Key Attributes

Required:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic programming experience in Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis.
  • Ability to learn new tools and technical areas quickly.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to manage shifting priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working both independently and in a team.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Desired:

  • Experience with data analysis libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib) or MATLAB toolboxes (e.g., Signal Processing, Statistics).
  • Foundational knowledge of statistics and data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, data acquisition systems).
  • Exposure to MRI or ultrasound principles through coursework, research, or prior work terms.
  • Exposure to root cause analysis or failure analysis through coursework, projects, or prior work terms.
  • Interest in medical devices or regulated industries (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820).
  • Interest in image-guided therapy, medical robotics, or medical imaging.

We thank you for your interest in Profound Medical. Please note only candidates that are short-listed will be contacted.
