Further, we engage with an elite team of top architects, engineers and industry experts who collectively bring over a century of experience.
About the Role

The 2027 Summer Accounting & Finance Intern supports the finance team with the day-to-day accounting, reporting, and analysis that keep a residential homebuilding operation on budget and on schedule. The intern will gain exposure to job-cost accounting, community-level budgeting, land and lot accounting, and month-end close, to understand how financial decisions drive the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and accrual preparation.
  • Support job-cost accounting by reviewing house-level and community-level costs, variance purchase orders (VPOs), and budget-to-actual reports.
  • Help process and review vendor invoices, lien waivers, and trade partner payments in coordination with Accounts Payable.
  • Assist in preparing closing packages, including verifying settlement statements and recording home sale revenue and cost of sales.
  • Support the preparation of community pro formas, land budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for division leadership, such as margin analysis, cycle-time cost impacts, and overhead tracking.
  • Assist with audit requests, internal controls testing, and documentation of accounting processes.
  • Complete a capstone project and present findings and recommendations to division leadership at the end of the internship.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with an expected graduation within one to two years.
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, basic formulas).
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Prior internship or coursework in cost accounting, real estate finance, or financial modeling.
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA or a career in corporate finance within real estate or construction.
  • Familiarity with ERP or homebuilder accounting systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Sage, Hyphen, BuildPro, NEWSTAR).

What You’ll Gain

Hands-on experience with job-cost and real estate accounting, insight into how a homebuilder manages margins from land acquisition to home closing, and mentorship from experienced finance professionals.
