About The Company
In operation since 1949, Idaho National Laboratory is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in energy research, nuclear science and national defense. The world's first usable amount of electricity from nuclear energy was generated here in 1951. At 890 square miles (569,135 acres), the INL Site is roughly 85 percent the size of Rhode Island. In addition to our geographic resources, the lab hosts a variety of unique facilities, including the Advanced Test Reactor National Scientific User Facility. Complementing our nuclear research, the lab has numerous alternative energy and national security programs. Robotics, wind power, high-performance computing, biofuels, critical infrastructure protection, carbon management and advanced vehicle testing are just a few examples of our multifaceted research capabilities. If you are looking for a 21st-century energy or technology career, visit our Careers tab at www.inl.gov. Battelle Energy Alliance manages INL for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy.
About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager of the Nuclear Remote Design team at the Materials and Fuels Complex, you will play a hands-on role in designing and developing remotely operated systems used in hot cells for advanced nuclear research. You will participate in conceptual design, mock-up reviews, redlining engineering drafts, overseeing fabrication, and testing components to ensure optimal performance. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain real-world experience in design while contributing to cutting-edge innovations in nuclear energy. These projects offer direct exposure to remote handling technologies and precision engineering in nuclear environments, providing a unique opportunity to apply your engineering skills in a collaborative and mission-driven setting.

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex near Idaho Falls, Idaho. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.
