About The Company
In operation since 1949, Idaho National Laboratory is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's missions in energy research, nuclear science and national defense. The world's first usable amount of electricity from nuclear energy was generated here in 1951. At 890 square miles (569,135 acres), the INL Site is roughly 85 percent the size of Rhode Island. In addition to our geographic resources, the lab hosts a variety of unique facilities, including the Advanced Test Reactor National Scientific User Facility. Complementing our nuclear research, the lab has numerous alternative energy and national security programs. Robotics, wind power, high-performance computing, biofuels, critical infrastructure protection, carbon management and advanced vehicle testing are just a few examples of our multifaceted research capabilities. If you are looking for a 21st-century energy or technology career, visit our Careers tab at www.inl.gov. Battelle Energy Alliance manages INL for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy.
About the Role

The intern will support operational, maintenance, and research activities at Idaho National Laboratory's Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC). Working alongside technicians, operators, engineers, and researchers, the intern will assist with facility operations, equipment inspections, material handling, data collection, and research support activities within a nuclear research environment. Opportunities may include supporting process systems, instrumentation, mechanical equipment, testing equipment, and facility support systems used to advance nuclear energy research and development.

The intern will gain hands-on experience working in a highly regulated environment while developing technical skills related to nuclear facility operations, industrial safety, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational excellence. Assignments will vary based on facility needs, project priorities, and student experience.
This team works a 4x10 schedule onsite at our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) campus. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship.
