About The Company
Kaplan Kirsch is a national law firm with a practice focused on solving problems that involve environmental, infrastructure, land use, public lands, real estate development, and transportation law. The Firm represents local governments, individuals, corporate clients, and organizations in complex and controversial projects that are often subject to intense public scrutiny and involve the intersection of private and governmental interests. The Firm has a reputation for crafting innovative solutions to high-risk and seemingly intractable problems involving the complex interplay of varied disciplines of law. Our attorneys have been counsel to a wide variety of public agencies across the nation, represented public interest organizations in high-profile environmental litigation, served as government counsel at the highest levels of federal and local government, and represented a wide range of clients on cutting-edge compliance issues. Our attorneys have a national reputation as handling some of the largest and most sophisticated public infrastructure projects, including Brownfields redevelopment, airports, highways, and urban transit systems. The Firm's offices in Denver, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, enable the Firm to represent clients in matters throughout the country. The breadth of the Firm's practice includes active representations in almost half the states at any one time.
About the Role

Description

We are looking for highly motivated and creative law students to join our dynamic, regulatory and projects-oriented law firm as a full-time Law Clerk for Summer 2027.  We are seeking law students who envision a public-interest career but may want to explore unique opportunities outside of the public sector.

Founded in 2003 as an alternative to the "business of law as usual," Kaplan Kirsch is a fast-growing, collegial, and collaborative national specialized law firm. Although we are a private law firm, we pride ourselves on our significant work for public entities and in the public interest.  A majority of our clients are states, local governments, Native American Tribes, airport authorities, transit agencies, renewable energy companies, and non-profit organizations.

Our firm offers a rare opportunity to work on matters that shape how people and goods move, how regions grow, and how communities stay connected. Just as important, it is deeply meaningful: our clients own and operate essential public assets, including airports, rail systems, and energy infrastructure, among others.  The legal work surrounding these projects affects millions of travelers, businesses, and communities across the United States every day. Our leadership includes multiple former U.S. Department of Transportation General Counsels and former chief counsels from the Federal Railroad and Federal Transit Administrations.  Our firm also advises on a variety of environmental regulatory, permitting, enforcement, and conservation matters for our clients. We have extensive litigation experience across our practice areas to address disputes in court as needed.

Our summer program offers Law Clerks real-world experience, substantial responsibility, and mentorship from attorneys at every level.  Our Law Clerks are key members of the Firm, engaging in various types of substantive legal work on matters across the country and our practice areas.  Our goal is to expose our Law Clerks to a wide variety of disciplines while gaining valuable experience, training, and insight into the legal profession.
