About The Company
Affinda is a Melbourne-born AI product & deployment company.
Most AI vendors want to be your only option. We don't. We help organisations see exactly what they're spending, use the best model for each task, and switch when something better comes along.
Our products automate complex workflows and keep AI costs in check without compromising quality. Our people help teams build the skills and confidence to use AI well, from the first workshop through to deploying AI at scale.
Affinda began in 2012 when brothers Dr Ben Toner, a Caltech quantum physicist, and Tim Toner, a former investment banker, asked "what if we could?" Thirteen years later, a team of more than 120 answers that question every day for 2,800 customers across 85 countries.
We've been recognised by Deloitte and Forbes as one of Australia's fastest-growing AI companies, and our AI Deployment team (formerly Pathfindr) has been named one of AFR's Most Innovative Companies two years running.
About the Role
Dates: 18 Jan – 26 Feb 2027 (6 weeks)
Location: Dover House, Cremorne, Melbourne, mostly on-site with some flexibility
Who we are
We're a 100+ person, Australian owned, global AI company, headquartered in Melbourne and named one of the fastest growing technology companies in Australia.
We partner with businesses across the globe to solve their urgent constraints via technology solutions – primarily AI accelerated education, AI products and AI deployed engineering solutions.
What you'll do
You'll build a mini product in one of our product areas, or apply AI to automate and improve a key internal business process which delivers value to stakeholders. There also might be an opportunity to work on a live customer engineering solution.
With a lot of support from our team and potentially the other interns, you'll do everything, including product design, the coding (or vibe coding if you’re not a coder), and working with the people who'll use it. We think this is now possible to achieve in 6 weeks with AI and our support. You don't need to come up with the project idea – we'll give you one. But you'll own it end to end. We'll train you up and help you along the way.
Who we're looking for
Smart, curious students who are proficient in AI and keen to join a nimble scale-up. Academic results matter to us, but so does everything else, so still apply if you think you’ll stand out in other ways. We're less interested in perfection than we are in your energy, curiosity and great ideas.
You'll be part of a cohort of up to 8 interns, working on your own project whilst helping each other via peer coaching. It will also be a good experience socially.
Casual and permanent roles on offer to those who design high-quality solutions and show collaborative, thoughtful ways of working.
Hiring process
Although we use AI throughout the business, we don't use AI to conduct interviews.
Compensation
Paid internship: $1,222.84 per week (38 hours, at the applicable award rate).
We're committed to fostering an inclusive workplace and welcome applications from all qualified individuals. We do not respond to unsolicited contact from recruitment agencies.
