About the Role

We are looking for a talented Quality Placement Student to join our European Quality team within the Distribution Business Unit (DBU) at our Cummins facility in Peschiera Borromeo (Milan Area), Italy, for a 12-month placement.

This is an exciting opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in quality management, supplier coordination, and continuous improvement within a global organisation. Working closely with our Italian and European Quality teams, you will support quality processes, resolve operational challenges, and contribute to projects that enhance business performance and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Support the investigation and resolution of customer complaints, material non-conformances, and quality issues, working with suppliers and internal teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams on the return and analysis of non-conforming components, ensuring appropriate documentation and follow-up.

  • Support the maintenance and improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS), including ISO 9001 compliance, quality documentation, and process improvements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across Supply Chain, Logistics, Manufacturing, and Quality to monitor quality performance and resolve operational issues.

  • Analyse quality data and prepare reports, dashboards, and presentations to support business decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Support the development and maintenance of quality reporting tools, documentation, and SharePoint resources.

  • Take ownership of an individual improvement project during the placement, delivering measurable benefits to the Quality function.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with suppliers and international stakeholders.

  • Good analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A proactive, self-motivated, and collaborative approach, with the confidence to work independently and take responsibility.

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with SharePoint and Power BI would be an advantage.

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian, along with strong written and spoken English communication skills.

Education/Experience:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Interest in quality management, business operations, supply chain, or continuous improvement.

  • Previous internship or project experience in a relevant field would be an advantage but is not required.

  • Availability for a 12-month placement in Peschiera Borromeo, with a minimum of 60% on-site attendance and flexibility for remote working.
