We’re looking for an ambitious, self-starting, hands-on mechanical engineering co-op to join the team building Atlas, our humanoid robot. Our co-ops design, build, and test prototypes; they investigate weird problems; and they run experiments of all kinds.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications, warehouse logistics and general purpose labor.
What our co-ops do
- Work with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to help design and support complex robotic systems
- Plan and perform verification and validation testing on prototype and production systems
- Design and develop new features for existing products
- Troubleshoot issues, perform root cause failure analysis and design/implement corrective actions to sustain existing products
- Design and release parts and assemblies using Catia CAD software
- Develop and maintain product support documentation including bills of material (BOMs) and detailed part/assembly drawings
- Support system design analyses, including reliability, DFM / DFA, cost-reduction
What we want to see in our co-ops:
- A demonstrated passion for robotics and mechanical design
- Design experience w/ 3D CAD tools (CATIA, Solidworks, Onshape, &c.)
- That you’re hands-on. Our best co-ops can and want to build, assemble, and troubleshoot stuff
- That you can write well. A poorly written test plan, report, or spec robs the team of the knowledge we need to make our robots even better.
- That you’re working toward a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or similar
Nice to Have:
- You know Python, LabView, MATLAB, or similar
- You know some FEA/CFD tools
- You have designed stuff for manufacturing (eg injection molding, castings, extrusions, sheet metal, weldments, &c.)
- You’re acquainted with ASME drafting standards including GD&T, (Y14.5-2018)
- You’ve worked systems comprising sensors, actuators and mechanisms
Additional Info:
- Public transportation is accessible from Boston/Alewife.
- Boston Dynamics will never ask you to divulge your personal financial or account information as part of its recruiting process.
We are interested in every qualified candidate who is eligible to work in the United States. However, we are not able to sponsor visas for this position.
