Job Description

Our Payments team

Payments sit at the center of how businesses operate, grow, and connect with their customers. From accepting a customer payment to paying a supplier across the globe, U.S. Bank helps businesses move and manage money through an integrated suite of merchant acquiring, card issuing, and money movement capabilities. Our Payment Sales teams connect these solutions to our clients’ most important business needs, combining relationship management, strategic thinking, and deep payments expertise.

The Payment Sales internship program is designed for individuals looking to kickstart their career in one of the most innovative and dynamic areas of financial services. Based in either Minneapolis or Chicago, you’ll work alongside experienced sales professionals supporting clients ranging from small and medium-sized businesses to large multinational corporations and financial institutions. You’ll build foundational payments knowledge and gain hands-on experience supporting client relationships and developing solutions to real-world business needs.

What you'll do

Our 10-week paid internship will provide a foundation in payments, consultative sales, customer discovery, and relationship management. You will develop business and product acumen through meaningful project work, on-the-job learning, mentorship, and a community of peers and advisors. The experience is designed to help you understand how sales teams partner across product, analytics, marketing, implementation, risk, and relationship-management functions to deliver value.

As a Payment Sales Intern, you'll:

• Support consultative sales activities, including market and prospect research, customer discovery preparation, opportunity identification, and development of client recommendations.

• Analyze industry and client data to identify trends, needs, and potential opportunities. Leverage AI models to segment clients, predict behaviors, and personalize service delivery.

• Assist with the development of presentations, proposals, sales materials, and business cases that clearly communicate the value of payment solutions.

• Partner with sales professionals and cross-functional teams to understand how opportunities progress from discovery and analysis to recommendation, implementation, and ongoing relationship support.

• Develop relationship-building, communication, financial acumen, and payments-industry knowledge through training, mentorship, and exposure to senior leaders.

• Own meaningful projects that address a business opportunity or customer need and present findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

• Build a supportive community of peers through cohort activities such as social events, volunteer opportunities, and development workshops.

Who we're looking for

We're looking for intellectually curious students with strong interpersonal skills who are interested in sales, relationship management, financial services, and the evolving payments industry. Successful candidates are comfortable working with data and ambiguity, enjoy collaborating with others, and can translate information into clear, practical recommendations.

Basic qualifications:

• Pursuing a bachelor's degree with a target graduation date of December 2027 or Spring 2028.

• Coursework in business, finance, economics, marketing, communications, sales, data analytics, management information systems, or a related field, and/or the ability to apply knowledge in those areas to a financial-services environment.

• Demonstrated interest in sales, customer experience, relationship management, payments, banking, financial technology, or business development.

• Ability to start the internship program on June 7, 2027.

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to organize information and present a clear point of view.

• Relationship-building and customer-service skills, with an interest in consultative selling and needs-based conversations.

• Analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

• Acute attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, demonstrating initiative, ownership, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with customer relationship management, data-visualization, or AI-enabled productivity tools is a plus.

Internship benefits

• Meaningful, hands-on work that impacts the business and customer experience.

• Networking opportunities with senior leadership, U.S. Bank team members, and fellow interns.

• Structured learning, mentorship, and professional development.

• Potential consideration for full-time opportunities upon graduation.
