About The Company
Precision Neuroscience is pioneering a brain implant, known as a brain-computer interface (BCI), to restore communication and independence for people with neurological conditions. Our cutting-edge technology is designed to empower people with paralysis to control digital devices—such as computers and smartphones—with their thoughts alone, opening new possibilities for daily life. Precision’s multidisciplinary team brings together leading experts in diverse fields such as neurosurgery, artificial intelligence, machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, and more. We are committed to turning breakthrough scientific advancements into real-world solutions for people affected by conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, and ALS. As a Precision employee, you will be joining one of the fastest moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of BCI. Since our founding in 2021, Precision has secured over $155 million in funding, developed and validated our technology, and initiated human trials in collaboration with some of the nation’s top hospitals. About the Role

ABOUT PRECISION NEUROSCIENCE

Precision Neuroscience is building a next-generation brain–computer interface (BCI) to heal and empower millions of people living with neurological conditions.

Our first product, Layer 7, is designed to help people with severe paralysis operate digital devices using only their thoughts—opening up new possibilities for daily life.

Our team brings together experts in neurosurgery, AI and machine learning, microfabrication, electrical engineering, clinical science, and more. We combine deep technical rigor with a people-first mindset to turn breakthrough research into real-world medical solutions.

As a Precision employee, you’ll join one of the fastest-moving and best-capitalized companies in the emerging field of brain–computer interfaces. Since our founding in 2021, we have raised more than $430 million, advanced our technology through validation, and initiated human trials with leading hospitals across the country.

Our Values:

We build for human impact, measuring progress by the lives our work can change.

We do no harm, holding ourselves to the highest standards of safety, integrity, and responsibility.

We innovate with urgency because the stakes are high and our users can’t wait.

We bring sharp minds, open ears, pairing expertise with curiosity, humility, and respect.

And we lead the way, taking ownership of our work and helping to shape the future of our field.

We are seeking a Firmware Engineering Intern to help us develop the embedded software that makes our BCI technology possible. In this role, you will be learning to build and test cutting edge medical devices, while also making real contributions to production software. You will operate within a tight-knit firmware team and collaborate closely with experts from other disciplines. You will be solving difficult problems and working on systems that stand to tangibly improve people’s lives.

This position will be based in our New York office. We are unable to consider remote workers or individuals who are not currently based in the US and not legally authorized to work in the US.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be a key contributor to the development and testing of embedded software for our cutting-edge brain computer interfaces.

  • You are a great communicator, and you excel at collaborating with others and presenting your work. You will be regularly presenting your progress and findings to both technical and non-technical collaborators.

  • Safety is at the heart of our ethos at Precision - and it is for you too. Candidates for this role must have a strong intuition and affinity for testing. You will be actively contributing to our suite of tests.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience with embedded systems ( coursework, projects, internships)

  • Proficient in C/C++ and Python

  • Experienced in working with microcontrollers (e.g. Nordic / NXP / STM / …) and familiar with communication protocols (e.g. SPI / I2C / UART / USB / BLE / Wi-Fi / ...)

  • Skilled at writing unit tests and clear software documentation

  • Familiar with debugging tools such as the GNU Debugger and serial printing

  • Comfortable using lab equipment to debug hardware and firmware (signal generators / logic analyzers / oscilloscopes / DMMs / …)

Bonus if you have any of the following:

  • Experience with safety-critical systems (medical devices / automotive / aerospace / …)

  • Working knowledge of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (particularly in the context of embedded systems)
