About the Role

30hp - Troubleshooting Optimization in Software-Defined Vehicles(34639)

Introduction

Thesis work is an excellent way to get closer to Scania and build relationships for the future. Many of today's employees began their Scania career with their degree project.

Background

Vehicle functions combine ECUs, onboard apps and digital services. As TRATON introduces Service-Oriented Vehicle Diagnostics (SOVD), we want to investigate how diagnostics can better support troubleshooting across these systems.

Objective

Investigate whether, and for which fault types, combined SOVD and Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) diagnostics improve fault localization compared with troubleshooting based solely on ECU fault codes and measured values. Consider classical vehicle functions as well as hybrid ones residing both on the vehicle and offboard in the cloud.

Job Description

Key activities

  1. Identify the diagnostic information needed across ECUs, apps and digital services.
  2. Build and evaluate a prototype for distributed vehicle functions in a hardware rig or simulation environment, including faults involving apps or digital services.
  3. Investigate whether, and for which fault types, combined SOVD and UDS diagnostics improve fault localization compared with using ECU fault codes and measured values alone. Cover both onboard vehicle functions and functionality spanning the vehicle and cloud-based digital services.

Ground the study in relevant research and applicable ISO standards, defined a documented diagnostic baseline, and use controlled fault scenarios to assess benefits, remaining capability gaps and limitations. Distinguish the contribution of diagnostic access from that of additional information and diagnostic reasoning. Analyse unresolved cases to identify missing diagnostic information, implementation support or diagnostic methods.

The expected results would result in an evaluated prototype, reproducible tests, a capability-gap analysis, a master’s thesis and practical recommendations for TRATON’s diagnostic development.

Education and profile

Master’s studies in Computer Science, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.
Programming and software-testing skills are expected.

Number of students: One or two.

Start and duration: Q1 2027; approximately 20 weeks, 30 ECTS per student.

Location: Scania Technical Centre, Granparksvägen 10, 151 48 Södertälje, Sweden.
