About The Company
Mataura Valley Milk Limited was incorporated in New Zealand in February 2008 and formed to pursue the construction of ‘The World’s Best’ nutritional formula plant on the outskirts of Gore.
About the Role

Our Story:

The a2 Milk Company, driven by science and a pioneering spirit, disrupted the dairy and infant milk formula industry. Our vision is to create an A1-free world where dairy nourishes all people and our planet.

The a2 Milk Company seeks to achieve this through the naturally occurring a2 Milk® difference and by bringing a more sustainable approach to dairy.

The role:

We're looking for a motivated Manufacturing & Production Engineering intern to join our Blending & Canning team at our Pōkeno manufacturing site for a 10-week paid internship.

This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing and process improvement, working directly with our production teams to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and performance.

You'll be involved in practical projects focused on understanding production processes, analysing data and identifying ways to reduce downtime and improve how we operate.

More specifically, you will be involved in:

  • Conducting time studies on changeover times between different product batches and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Reviewing machine setting change times and investigating ways to reduce downtime.
  • Assisting with the collection and analysis of production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Reviewing existing manufacturing documentation and identifying opportunities to simplify or improve processes.
  • Working closely with the manufacturing team to support practical process improvements.

What You Will Bring

  • Currently studying Production, Engineering, Manufacturing, Statistical Analysis or a related discipline.
  • An interest in manufacturing processes, operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good attention to detail and confidence working with data.
  • A practical approach and willingness to work alongside people on the production floor.

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience within a leading New Zealand dairy and nutrition business.
  • The opportunity to work directly with manufacturing and production teams.
  • Exposure to real manufacturing processes and continuous improvement projects.
  • The chance to apply your academic knowledge to practical business challenges.
  • Valuable industry connections and experience to support your future career.
