About the Role

Are you interested in numerical simulations of electrodiffusion in the heart? We are seeking two students for a six-week summer project focused on running numerical simulations of electrodiffusion in cellular geometries using existing software (such as MFEM, FEniCS, MATLAB, and Julia). The students will perform a large number of numerical simulations and test multiple environments for solving the equations.

If you would like to work with a highly competent and motivated team of international researchers at Simula, we would like to hear from you.

Simula is a publicly owned ICT research lab, located in Oslo city centre. Our main objective is to reach new levels of understanding and to create vital knowledge about fundamental scientific challenges that are of genuine value to society.

We are looking for students that:

  • Are currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in mathematics, informatics, or technology
  • Have a strong academic record
  • Are curious and interested in research, and enjoy working on challenging problems independently and in teams
  • Can program and preferably have knowledge of differential equations
  • Have strong spoken and written English skills

 What we offer:

  • The opportunity to do high-quality research with supervision from international researchers
  • A highly competent and engaging workplace where you are encouraged to contribute, both scientifically and socially
  • An hourly-based salary (Simula does not cover expenses such as travel, housing, etc.)
  • An inclusive working environment, with a fun and social workplace culture.

Students may also take part in a summer school in computational physiology organized by Simula, UC San Diego, and the University of Oslo: https://www.simula.no/education/courses-summer-schools/summer-school-computational-physiology

When: The summer intern positions lasts for 6 weeks and takes place during the period from mid-June to mid-August.

The application deadline is January 15, 2027.

How to apply: Applications must be sent through the application form below.

Contact persons: Henrik Finsberg, henriknf@simula.no and Karoline H. Jæger, karolihj@simula.no
