Description

JOB TITLE: Intern Legal Associate

Working with wine is cool. Want to work with wine? Wineshipping is a tech-enabled third-party logistics (3PL) provider for alcoholic beverage companies, managing the fastest, most accurate, and most cost-efficient delivery network in the US for wine, beer, spirits, and more. Wineshipping was voted North Bay Business Journal’s Supplier of the Year (Wine Beer & Spirits Awards). We’re a pretty cool place to work. We’ve been voted as Best Place to Work in Napa County year after year. By the way, wine literally likes to stay cool, so our facilities are all climate-controlled.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our warehouses are buzzing, our clients are scaling, and our teams are growing. But behind every smooth operation is a legal mastermind who keeps the contracts tight, the risks low, and the business protected—and that’s where you come in.

If you love decoding contracts, navigating compliance, and being the calm in the legal storm, this role is your courtroom (minus the robes).

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Risk Radar: Spot legal risks before they become problems and help the business make smart, compliant decisions.

  • Compliance Captain: Ensure we’re playing by the rules; whether it’s data privacy, employment law, or industry regulations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaborator: Work closely with leadership and department heads to support strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations.
  • Policy Pro: Help develop and maintain internal policies that keep our teams aligned and our practices sharp.

OTHER IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE JOB:

  • Good attention to detail – it’s the little things that make the difference in good service and GREAT service for our clients. (The big things matter to them too, just saying…)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal process instructions. Following the process yields reliable results. Clients like “reliable”.
  • Strong verbal, written, and phone communication skills.
  • Bilingual welcome.
  • You may need to work beyond your regular work hours and occasionally on a weekend, if needed.
  • Other Cool Stuff- And hey — you might get pulled into other projects too. We’re a team that wears many hats, and yours might be fabulous.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:

  • JD from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in California.
  • 3–5+ years of legal experience, preferably in-house or in logistics/supply chain
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills (bonus points for commercial and tech contracts)
  • Knowledge of employment law, regulatory compliance, and risk management
  • A proactive mindset, a collaborative spirit, and a love for solving problems before they happen
