With offices in every state plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, we live and work in the communities we serve. We listen to what people need and want, and offer programs, services and trusted information that are directly relevant to them. State offices also work with our national office to amplify our members’ voices at the local and federal levels to help empower people 50 and above to choose how they live and work as they age. From being a force for positive change to producing the nation’s largest-circulation magazine – the full scope of what we do might surprise you! That’s why people who are excited by unique opportunities and galvanized by meaningful challenges come to work at AARP.
About the Role
Overview

AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. With a nationwide presence, AARP strengthens communities and advocates for what matters most to the more than 100 million Americans 50-plus and their families: health and financial security, and personal fulfillment. AARP also works for individuals in the marketplace by sparking new solutions and allowing carefully chosen, high-quality products and services to carry the AARP name. As a trusted source for news and information, AARP produces the nation's largest-circulation publications, AARP The Magazine and the AARP Bulletin.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is responsible for developing AARP's annual budget, three periodic financial forecasts, and multi-year financial plan. The team partners closely with the Enterprise Strategy Group to ensure financial resources are available and aligned with the strategic priorities as approved by AARP leadership and the Board. FP&A also provides an array of financial analytical services to AARP business groups, leadership and the Board.

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Intern will support the FP&A team in providing financial analysis, planning, forecasting, and decision support across AARP. The internship provides hands-on experience in the core activities of a corporate FP&A organization while developing the intern’s analytical, financial modeling, communication, and business-partnership skills. The intern will also have the opportunity to work on targeted analytical projects designed to improve decision-making, reporting, or FP&A processes. Through these experiences, the intern will learn how financial information translates into business insights and how FP&A partners with leaders to support organizational priorities. This paid internship is for Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist FP&A team members with annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and longer-range planning activities, including compilation, review, and validation of financial information
  • Variance & Performance Analysis: Compare actual financial results with budgets and forecasts, research material variances, and help identify the underlying business drivers contributing to performance
  • Management Reporting: Assist in developing recurring financial reports, dashboards, analyses, and presentation materials that clearly communicate financial performance and business insights to both financial and non-financial audiences
  • Financial Modeling: Support the development and maintenance of financial models for forecasts, business cases, scenario analysis, operational decisions, and other FP&A projects
  • Financial Planning Systems & Data: Gain practical experience working with FP&A reporting and planning tools and learn how financial information flows through the planning, forecasting, and reporting process
  • Professional Development: Participate in FP&A meetings, planning activities, and learning opportunities to gain exposure to corporate finance, business operations, and the role FP&A plays in organizational decision-making
  • Capstone FP&A Project: During the internship, the intern will own a defined analytical project addressing a current business or financial question. The intern will gather and analyze relevant financial and operational information, develop insights and recommendations, and present conclusions to FP&A leadership at the end of the internship
