About the Role
About us

At Viasat, the work you do helps people stay connected in ways that matter, from everyday moments to critical missions across air, land, sea, and space.

We’re a place for people who are curious, bold, and motivated by meaningful work. Here, you'll have the opportunity to make an impact, explore new possibilities, and grow your career in ways that align with your interests and goals. When you're ready to take on something new, you'll find leaders who support your development and help you turn your ambition into action.

What you'll do

As an Industrial Engineer (IE) Intern at Viasat, you are joining a growing and dynamic group within the Operational Excellence team. In this role, you will play a key part in analyzing and improving the performance of manufacturing lines. Your primary tool will be Discrete Event Analysis using ProModel. Partnering with a Senior Industrial or Lean Practitioner as needed, you will identify inefficiencies, design data-driven solutions, and implement process improvements to drive operational excellence. You will work on optimizing workflows, minimizing waste, and enhancing overall productivity while contributing to Lean initiatives that foster a culture of continuous improvement. This role provides an opportunity to directly impact the success of the organization while building your technical expertise and problem-solving skills.

The day-to-day

Your daily responsibilities will include gathering and analyzing manufacturing data, running simulations in ProModel, identifying areas for improvement, and presenting your findings. Expect to engage with cross-functional teams to collect data, explain insights, and support the implementation of solutions. Solutions in scope include floor layout, resource optimization, flow design, line balancing, visual management, and many other factory-level optimizations from best practices found in Lean/TPS, 6Sigma, Agile, TOC, and more.

From on-the-floor observations, to fire-fighting escalations, to supplier assessment, your work will focus on driving efficiency and supporting the seamless operations of Viasat’s most critical manufacturing lines. Each day will offer new opportunities to learn, innovate, and make a measurable impact.
